Josh Yago Finding Early Success at Notre Dame

Colorado continues to produce standout lacrosse talent, and few stories exemplify that success more than Josh Yago, a former Storm youth player and Arvada West High School standout who is now making waves at the collegiate level with the University of Notre Dame following an outstanding career at the Air Force Academy.

From Colorado Roots to National Success

Josh and Roger Yago

Yago’s lacrosse journey started in Colorado’s youth scene, where he played for the Rocky Mountain Storm Lacrosse before becoming an exceptional player at Arvada West High School. Lacrosse runs deep in his family. His father, Roger, has long been involved as both a youth and high school coach. Roger played high school lacrosse at Littleton and later football at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he was part of the Buffaloes’ 1990 national championship team.

Josh’s strong foundation and work ethic led to recruitment by the United States Air Force Academy, where he built an exceptional career as a cadet-athlete before pursuing graduate studies and a final year of eligibility at Notre Dame.

Stellar Career at Air Force

While at Air Force, Yago became one of the program’s top players. Josh earned numerous honors and ranked among the school’s all-time leaders despite losing his freshman year to injury.

Career Highlights at Air Force:

  • Team Captain

  • All-America Honorable Mention

  • Conference Player of the Year

  • Air Force single-season assists record holder (35)

  • Second in program history for single-season points (72)

  • 156 career points — fifth-most in program history

His leadership and versatility at the Air Force set him up for continued success at the highest levels of college lacrosse.

Fast Start with Notre Dame

Yago has made an immediate impact with the Fighting Irish, helping lead Notre Dame to a 3–0 start with victories over Marquette, Bellarmine, and Georgetown.

Through the first three games of the season, Yago has recorded 9 goals and 4 assists, totaling 13 points and leading the Irish offense.

Following Yago’s strong opening game performances, Notre Dame head coach Kevin Corrigan praised his all-around ability: “...[T]he thing I like most about [Yago] is the variety of plays that he makes. He's good everywhere...There's not a lot of guys that really have that kind of a skill set, first of all, but then the maturity, having played for Air Force the last couple of years, I think just really makes him a tough cover.”

Yago’s influence goes beyond the numbers. He brings a quiet confidence and determination to the field. “We're here to play,” Josh simply says about his time at Notre Dame so far.

Colorado Pride

From Colorado youth lacrosse to national prominence at the collegiate level, Josh’s journey reflects the strength of the game in the state.

Congratulations to the Yago family, and best of luck to Josh for the rest of the season.
