High School Lacrosse Season Set to Begin
Colorado’s high school lacrosse season officially gets underway Thursday, March 5, with a slate of early matchups that signal the start of another spring season across the state. This year marks the 61st season of high school lacrosse in Colorado.
Opening night features Boulder hosting Erie, Poudre School District facing Windsor, and Grandview squaring off against Pine Creek.
While Thursday offers a taste of competition, the schedule ramps up quickly. Friday and Saturday bring 22 more contests - 15 on Friday and seven on Saturday - giving teams an early opportunity to test themselves and set the tone for the weeks ahead.
Several interesting matchups headline the opening weekend. Last year’s 4A champion Dakota Ridge takes on perennial 4A power Cheyenne Mountain, a game that could carry postseason implications down the line. In Class 5A, favorites Cherry Creek and Valor Christian open their campaigns by hosting out-of-state challenger Marin Catholic, offering an early measuring stick against national-level competition.
Cross-class battles also add intrigue, with 5A-4A matchups including Fairview vs. Evergreen, Golden vs. Lakewood, and Lewis-Palmer vs. Air Academy.
With new faces entering key roles on teams, returning contenders hoping to defend their status, and a busy first weekend of action, Colorado high school lacrosse wastes no time jumping into meaningful competition. By the end of Saturday, nearly fifty teams will have taken the field, and the early storylines of the 2026 season will already be taking shape.
